NAME : Amanda
BEFORE WEIGHT : 195
AFTER WEIGHT : 138
POUNDS LOST : 55

WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
Never really had a weight problem. I didn’t develop an issue with my weight until after I had my twins five years ago. I weighed at 215 pounds when I went in to deliver them. And after their birth I seemed stuck at 195-185. I never had an issue before losing weight. Usually 5 months later I would only have 5-10 pounds to worry about. Not 50 plus.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
With all that extra weight. I was depressed and never wanted to leave the house. I needed new clothes because k was tired of wearing maternity clothes 6 months post pregnancy. And shopping just made it worse. My energy level and ambition level as well was affected. I had zero energy to begin with from taken care of newborn twins. You could forest about keeping up with my older four kids. I was tired of being tired and having no confidence.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I just looked in the mirror one day and realized. “I look old and tired for 30 year old girl”. My weight was affecting my relationship with my husband. And not by him. He loved me rolls and all. And always told me how beautiful k was. Even then. He’s amazing. But for me. I was self conscious and couldn’t take it anymore. I wanted to be excited when my husband hands me money and says “here. Buy yourself something pretty.”

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
Well. I’ve always had been an active girl. I enjoy running. After five years of just
Running and occasional yoga. I did manage to lose over 50 pounds. That wa with me doing the yo-yo diet and exercise. You know the kind. Get really into fitness and nutrition for a month or two. And then stop for a year. Yeah that was me. 7 months ago I finally got a gym membership. And realized. if i want to see real definition and change I need to be consistent and do more then just cardio. So I started lifting and squatting.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I started being consistent 7 months ago and I would have to say maybe about four months ago I started seeing the difference in the mirror and the way my cloths fit. I measure
Myself with tape once a week and use the scale for my weight once a month. For once in my life I am not concerned with the number on the scale anymore.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
Challenges to overcome for me was finding time. You could only imagine how busy a mom with six kids can be. Especially with a broad range of ages. From teenagers to preschool age. So I’m all over the place. And also finding the energy to get up and do it. I don’t find the time anymore. I just make it and do it. If I keep looking for the time all I find are reasons and excuses of why I should just stay home.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
The first 3 months were the hardest to get through. I just wants to stay home. And sleep. Sleep is precious to me. Lol. But why kept me going is at some point my daughters. And espcially my five year old little girl. Started to really watch me and join me when I did my fitness routines at home. And she would join me. I caught her one day with my pillow (her yoga mat) and standing in front of the Morrow doing her squats. Lol. It really pushed me to keep going. Knowing I was being a positive healthy influence to my daughter.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
No big plateaus. I would go through periods of time where I would be stuck at a weight and not lose. But then I would change what I was doing and try something new and be right back on track.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
It took me over four years to lose 55 pounds. I haven’t lost any weight in over a year. In fact. I have gained 10 pounds back in the 7 months I started lifting weights. But I realized it has to do with my new muscle gain. That’s why I have stopped with the scale and focus more on my pictures and tape measure.

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Yup! Love my non scale victory too. From all the squats I have been doing. My booty is finally lifting and being put back in its proper location. Slowly but surely. But bottom, hips and thighs are very generous is size and shape. So they are taken the longest to show change.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I eat more believe it or not. I am eating more. But eating healthier and smaller portions.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
Before I didn’t really have much of a activity level. I walked with my babies and pushed them in a stroller. So now I am doing something I have never done. I’m lifting weights. And I am loving it.

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS

  1. Just keep at it. Do it until it becomes routine. Just a natural part of your day.
  2. Find someone to be accountable with.
  3. Don’t discouraged. Try not to focus on the number on the scale.
  4. Take pictures and measure and mark it down. Keep a journal. And write down everything you eat.
  5. Have fun with it. Being healthy shouldn’t be something you have to dread. So have fun.
