Try These Kitchen Remodel Ideas For A Revamped Space
Kitchens are both busy hubs and safe havens for everyone in the family. It's every homemaker's happy place, the spot where the hubby sneaks a taste of tonight's dinner and where the kids pore over their homework over some freshly-made after-school snacks. So when it comes to remodeling, it's no surprise that the kitchen is the first to get the royal treatment! However, hiring out help can get pricey, so what's a DIYer to do? The answer is a no-brainer! Here are some kitchen remodel ideas sure to spark some inspiration and motivation.
1. Kitchen Cabinet Refacing
Instead of replacing the entire cabinet, why not reface it? Not only will it cost half as much, it also takes a lot less time (since you won't be ripping out the entire cabinet). Moreover, you'll still be able to use your kitchen while refacing your cabinets.
Refacing costs about $200 to $500 dollars when you do it on your own. Having a professional do it for you can cost you about $2000 to $4000, but that's still way cheaper compared to the $4000 to $5000 you'll be spending if you replace your cabinets completely.
2. Kitchen Backsplash
Backsplashes seem minor when it comes to kitchen remodel ideas, but they really do make a noticeable impact on the overall look of your kitchen. Tiles are the obvious choice, but it's also the priciest one, but you can always get creative. Plywood, for example, is sleek, modern, and looks more upscale than it actually is. Pegboard is another backsplash you can use.
It's not only affordable, it also adds to functionality by providing storage option. Beadboards and stamped tin are also affordable options. A sheet of glass with paint on the back should also be considered if you're looking for something that is vibrant and easy to clean.
3. Countertop Materials
Let's not forget the work surfaces when you're looking for kitchen remodel ideas! If you're looking to change your countertops, you might already be considering using quartz or granite. Both types have their advantages, though both types are expensive.
There are many other options for countertop materials out there. Solid surfacing is cheap, laminating is even cheaper, and marble is elegant. Soapstone is subtle, concrete is classic, and stainless steel is modern. There are a great deal of options for countertop materials, don't limit yourself to the expensive ones. Take your pick!
4. Appliances and Functionality
Conventional wisdom dictates that expensive appliances mean better appliances in the long run. But you need not resign yourself to shelling out a crazy amount of money just like that. There are ways to save when you're trying to purchase new appliances.
Holiday sales, rebates, skipping extended warranties, and even stacking up all those gift cards and coupons, could get you around the hefty prices of those high-end appliances.
5. General, Accent, and Task Lighting
Better lighting doesn't have to cost you an arm and a leg, especially when you're splitting your budget across many kitchen remodel ideas. Installing track lighting, under-cabinet lighting, recessed lighting, and adding a dimmer switch can all contribute to a better overall ambiance.
There are three types of lighting, mainly general, task, and accent lighting. For an in-depth explanation for each type of lighting, check this article.
6. Useful Space
Better aesthetics do not necessarily have to equate with spending. Assess your available space and see how you can make it work for you. Every inch of space can be used for something, such as storage racks or wine displays. Kitchen remodel ideas can also include simple reorganization, no heavy lifting required!
