This $35 Amazon Pegboard Appears Not Once, But Twice in Our Home Office
When my boyfriend, Paul, and I first moved into a Brooklyn brownstone last year, we decided that our second bedroom would be his art studio. But one major paint spill later, he joined a professional studio a few blocks away and moved all of his supplies there, so I inherited the room as my home office. (We still lovingly call it the Studio, however.) The two things he didn’t take with him? The sets of metal pegboards he installed on the walls for his art supplies. And thank goodness—they’re a godsend for storage and, coincidentally, for showing off our distinct personal styles.
At just $35 on Amazon, the easy-to-install Wall Control Metal Pegboard makes you feel as if you live in a cool industrial space, and it holds just about anything. The board, available in 10 colors, comes in two pieces, so you can arrange it any way you like (Paul’s is spaced apart; mine is together), and the hundreds of accessories mean that the storage options are endless. From shelves to tiny bins to hooks of all sizes, there’s truly nothing we can’t organize on the boards, even…a handsaw? (Explain yourself, Paul!)
But they’re not just utilitarian marvels—you can alter them to fit any style. For instance, Paul’s orange boards are a storage unit for our household tools, while also acting as a display for his beloved 2020 World Series Champion (he made me add that part) L.A. Dodgers memorabilia. On the other side of the room, my white pegboards serve as part bookshelf, part mood board above my matching white powder-coated steel desk. And even though our pegboards are different colors and filled with a mashup of items, we’ve found that using pops of yellow through art and furniture makes the room feel cohesive.
As our lives change, so will the pegboards. But if we ever move, we’re taking those puppies with us. After all, where else would we store that handsaw?
